| The Fogel fridges imported by Bavaria are certified by Underwriters Laboratories and are the same as those distributed by PepsiCo in Miami, during the 2010 Super Bowl. |
During the recent Barranquilla Carnival, Bavaria officially presented its new HFC free fridges, made by the company Fogel. The fridges ensured the demand for cold beer was duly met.
The new units use R-290 gas, a hydrocarbon of a low molecular weight that doesn't affect the ozone layer in case of escapes. Additionally the new models use cyclopentane as an internal insulator, a environmentally friendly compound. As an additional characteristic the new fridges also consume less energy than traditional units, less than 100 W/hour.
After their use in Barranquilla, the units will be tested in Bogotá in a pilot that will enable the definition of the exact characteristics required, so that during the next 7 years, all the fridges used in the businesses of Bavaria's clients will be changed for environmentally friendly models, complying with the the plans of the Ministerio de Ambiente (Ministry of the Environment), that has announced the elimination of the use of HCFC gases in Colombia by the year 2040.
In 2009, the company swapped 11,000 fridges throughout the country for energy saving models. |
