During March the second phase of the Bavaria Opportunities– Educational Support for Shopkeeper's Children will enable 500 studentsto attend higher education degree courses (technical, technological and university) during the second term of 2010.
This Bavaria Social Responsibility activity, launched in October 2009, has already benefited 19 students throughout the country. Theseshopkeeper's children have recently started their academic courses.
In this new stage of the program the grandchildren of shopkeepers from the most vulnerable socio-economic groups are also eligible to receive the program benefits.
Other relevant changes are an increase in coverage for technology degrees and allowing students who are in the last two years or last four terms of their university degrees, to be eligible for the program.
The initiative will also support those young who wish to obtain a professional degree/professional specialization using the propaedeutic method (preparation for the study of a discipline).
This phase of the Bavaria Opportunities– Educational Support for Shopkeeper's Children program uses the same characteristics as the first phase with up to 80% of the value of the matriculation being paid in sponsorship, zero interest and no co-signer/or co-debtor being required.
Selected students must comply with the requested first phase requirements , and must pay the money back when they find gainful employment.
The program applies to technical or university careers, which have a maximum cost of COP$1.500.000 per term.
The administration of Bavaria Opportunities – Educational Support for Shopkeeper's Children will be managed by the firm Lumni, who are specialists in the design and administration of human capital investment funds for high potential students from low income backgrounds. They will give support to the students throughout all the program phases.
From the second fortnight of March, Bavaria Shopkeepers will receive the pre-inscription form and a special edition of Don Próspero Flash detailing the main aspects of the program.
