Bavaria has decided to support the work being forwarded by the Colombian environmental authorities to manage and protect the hippopotamuses of the Nápoles Hacienda. The above, in its condition as subsidiary company of the South African Brewery SABMiller.
Bavaria’s contribution implies paying the cost of displacement and sustenance in Colombia of a group of subject matter experts who, since 2007, have provided consultancy to Corantioquia and to the Fundación Vida Silvestre Neotropical. Among these experts, it is worth mentioning the presence of the South African National Parks Unit Wild Life Veterinarian Services Chief, Markus Hofmeir; Peter Morkel, former officer of the same entity and current Rhinoceros Coordinator at the Frankfurt Zoological Society in Tanzania; and the veterinarian Michael D. Kock, from the Field Veterinarians Program of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS in South Africa).
The process to get Bavaria and its foundation’s involvement in this initiative to protect the hippopotamuses was forwarded by the South African Consul in Colombia, Mr. Fred Jacobsen.
