Oportunidades Bavaria is a social community investment program aimed at neighbouring communities of the Company’s production plants, whose beneficiaries are their natural leaders: the least favoured shopkeepers. The initiative offers two social micro-credit lines: business strengthening and education.
The first group of beneficiaries corresponds to 20 shopkeepers in Comuna Uno of Bucaramanga, who received the first disbursements of the program in an event that took place on August 24.
“This program means a lot more to us. We are sure that this will be a success, thanks to all of you. We couldn’t have given it a better name; it is very often that good people, hard-working people who believe in the country as you do, what really need is an opportunity like this, precisely”, affirmed Fernando Jaramillo Giraldo, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, during its launching.
In a first phase, the initiative will have resources for COL$400 million, coming from contributions of Bavaria and Uni2 and Financiera Comultrasán in equal shares, the latter being in charge of managing micro-credits, the amounts of which will range between $347.350 and $3 million.
The program emerged after USAID-Midas convinced Bavaria about the benefits of social micro-credit as a tool to improve the social conditions of communities such as Comuna Uno in Bucaramanga.
